When I first started writing blog posts, I poured hours into crafting long, detailed articles. I thought the more content, the better. But here’s the thing—it didn’t matter how much I wrote if people couldn’t find it. That’s when I realized: content alone isn’t enough. SEO plays a huge role in making sure your posts actually get seen. I was missing a key element. Keyword research. Once I started using keywords strategically, I saw a huge shift in traffic and engagement. If you’re putting out great content but no one’s reading it, SEO is likely the missing piece. Here are some common struggles I see when it comes to writing blog posts: - Not knowing where to start - Writing for the sake of it because it’s what you “should” do - No one is finding or reading your posts - You’re not consistent And this is where SEO comes into play. 1. Do keyword research before you start. Make sure you're targeting the phrases your audience is searching for. Then, make sure that those phrases are low competition, meaning 100 of the most popular websites in the world don’t already rank for those phrases. This helps your post get discovered. 2. Write for humans, but optimize for search engines. Don’t just stuff keywords in—make your content valuable. Google rewards useful, readable content. To do this, I always default to writing the way I talk. Casual. 3. Focus on structure. Break up your content with subheadings, bullet points, and short paragraphs. It’s easier for readers and helps search engines understand your post. Make sure it passes your own “If I glance at this, am I overwhelmed or does it look like a quick read?” test. 4. Add internal links. Link to other posts or pages on your site to keep readers engaged and improve SEO. This is also a great opportunity to dig into that content that may be lost on your website. Maybe it’s time for an audit? 5. Optimize the title and meta description. These are the first things searchers see—make sure they’re clear and compelling. You also want to ensure your keyword phrase is in there too! Here’s the takeaway: SEO is necessary. You can write the best blog post in the world, but without proper optimization, it might never reach the audience it deserves.
