my voice was too high to sound “credible”

Yesterday morning, I was on a call with one of my masterminds and someone asked a question about SEO.

I jumped at the chance to recommend RankIQ as a tool I used for SEO keyword research.

I’ve talked about why I love it before, but I have to give you a real-life example of how a blog post turned me into a customer the same day.

My son and I are starting a vending machine business.

I just bought my first one… but it’s in Ohio and I’m in Florida.

So, I searched something like “how to ship a vending machine from Ohio to Florida” and stumbled across a blog post with a call to action form to get a quote.

Fast forward a day—the contract was signed and nearly $1,000 was paid.

All because of a blog post I found on the internet.

I don’t know sh*t about technical SEO, but writing for SEO—I freaking love it!

If you want to do this for your site, don’t sleep on RankIQ.

Have we met yet?

If you’re new here, and we haven’t met yet, I just re-introduced myself on LinkedIn. Click here to read it.

Speaking of LinkedIn, I also posted a story about when I had my eye on the anchor desk when I worked as a reporter in Fort Myers.

On my weekends off, I’d come into the station to practice anchoring and get feedback from my assistant news director.

I never anchored there because, according to him, my voice was too high to sound “credible”.

Looking back, I realize how sexist that was—telling a woman she needed to sound more like a man to be “believable.” But, I digress.

Click here to read the rest and find out how I ended up at an anchor desk.

Hanging out with Reese Witherspoon

Tomorrow, I’m headed to Hollywood to hang out with one of my favorite people, Reese!

I snagged a ticket to Shine Away.

After checking out the speakers, I spotted the author of a book on my TBR pile, First Lie Wins.

Read it. Loved it.

After a weekend with crazy successful women, I’m off to try my luck at getting called to “Come on Down” at The Price is Right (for the third time).

My online courses

I don’t talk about my two online courses much. I haven’t launched either in at least a year… but I’m paying $1,500 a year to host them on Teachable.

Not smart, right?!

Well, I recently canceled that subscription and am moving everything over to Teachery for, get this…

$500 total. Forever.

If you have online courses, click here to make the move (and probably save a bunch of money like I am).

I sat in on a webinar about AI writing tools, and the biggest takeaway was pretty simple... AI isn’t the problem. Bad content is. A few things that really stood out: 1. Specific always beats broad.AI search tools pull small, precise snippets of content. Vague, fluffy writing won’t surface. Clear, direct answers will. 2. If AI content sounds generic, the prompt is the issue.Vague prompts = bland output. The more context you give around audience, intent, format, and tone, the better the result....

We're still deleting ourselves out of the Black Friday/Cyber Monday email hell, so let's keep today fun and take a trip down memory lane, shall we? Have you ever had one of those career moments that you know will make a great story someday... but in the moment, you’re just trying not to fall over? Yeah. That was me at the Versace Mansion auction. Back when I was a reporter for NBC in Miami, I sometimes worked as a one-man band. That meant shooting, writing, and editing all my own stuff....

Let me take you back to the moment I truly understood the phrase: “You dodged a bullet.” Picture this: Monroe, Louisiana. (No offense, but the city… if you want to call it that, did NOT impress me. But as a TV reporter, this is the kinda place you start.) I’m fresh out of college, bright-eyed, and ready for my very first shot as a TV reporter. I show up expecting a normal interview — some small talk, maybe a writing test, a polite handshake or two. Instead... I get ambushed by what can only...
