Yesterday morning, I was on a call with one of my masterminds and someone asked a question about SEO. I jumped at the chance to recommend RankIQ as a tool I used for SEO keyword research. I’ve talked about why I love it before, but I have to give you a real-life example of how a blog post turned me into a customer the same day. My son and I are starting a vending machine business. I just bought my first one… but it’s in Ohio and I’m in Florida. So, I searched something like “how to ship a vending machine from Ohio to Florida” and stumbled across a blog post with a call to action form to get a quote. Fast forward a day—the contract was signed and nearly $1,000 was paid. All because of a blog post I found on the internet. I don’t know sh*t about technical SEO, but writing for SEO—I freaking love it! If you want to do this for your site, don’t sleep on RankIQ. Have we met yet?If you’re new here, and we haven’t met yet, I just re-introduced myself on LinkedIn. Click here to read it. Speaking of LinkedIn, I also posted a story about when I had my eye on the anchor desk when I worked as a reporter in Fort Myers. On my weekends off, I’d come into the station to practice anchoring and get feedback from my assistant news director. I never anchored there because, according to him, my voice was too high to sound “credible”. Looking back, I realize how sexist that was—telling a woman she needed to sound more like a man to be “believable.” But, I digress. Click here to read the rest and find out how I ended up at an anchor desk. Hanging out with Reese WitherspoonTomorrow, I’m headed to Hollywood to hang out with one of my favorite people, Reese! I snagged a ticket to Shine Away. After checking out the speakers, I spotted the author of a book on my TBR pile, First Lie Wins. Read it. Loved it. After a weekend with crazy successful women, I’m off to try my luck at getting called to “Come on Down” at The Price is Right (for the third time). My online coursesI don’t talk about my two online courses much. I haven’t launched either in at least a year… but I’m paying $1,500 a year to host them on Teachable. Not smart, right?! Well, I recently canceled that subscription and am moving everything over to Teachery for, get this… $500 total. Forever. If you have online courses, click here to make the move (and probably save a bunch of money like I am). A teenage founder was introduced to me by Kristin Kenzy from Drunk Business Advice after building a new product called CoDuck. He described it as a tool for building enterprise-scale websites with advanced capabilities and the simplicity and ease of use people love. In his view, most current products make you choose between power and usability, and CoDuck is his attempt to close that gap. In the email intro, Kristin asked: How can he get attention for a tool like this? My answer was simple...
Bookstagram might look like chaos from the outside. And to be fair, sometimes it is. People are yelling about fictional men, spiraling over plot twists, and forming full-blown friendships in the comments. But there’s a reason it works so well, and honestly, brands should be paying attention. As someone who spends a lot of time on Bookstagram, I can tell you this: People don’t show up just for book recommendations. They show up because the content makes them feel something, gives them...
When people talk about “optimizing for AI,” they make it sound way more mysterious than it needs to be. A lot of what helps AI understand your business is the same stuff that helps actual humans understand your business. Clear messaging. Updated information. Specific language. Easy-to-find answers. I talked about this on a Storyblok webinar yesterday with three other marketers, and one thing kept coming up: AI cannot confidently describe, recommend, or surface your brand if your website is...
