SEO… without Google 🔍

Since I kinda nerd out about SEO, I wanted to share this take with you… that you can be found online without Google.

Here are five ways how.

1. DuckDuckGo

This search engine is great for privacy-focused users. It doesn’t track your search history and even lets you use AI anonymously, like OpenAI’s GPT-4 mini. You still get all the features you’re used to, like image, video, and shopping searches.

2. Ecosia

This search engine helps plant trees. It has planted over 213 million trees, and its results are powered by Google and Bing. Ecosia regularly publishes its financial reports and tree-planting receipts, so you can see exactly where the profits from your searches are going.

3. Brave Search

This one is built on its own index with privacy as a priority. It offers AI-powered results and even a Reddit-style discussion feature. If you prefer a clean, independent search without data collection, Brave is a strong contender.

4. Startpage

This one is powered by Google but with added privacy features like anonymous browsing and no tracking. The feature hides your identity while you browse, sort of like using a VPN for search.

5. Perplexity

This is one I’ll be looking into a little bit more since my manager at Storyblok told me about it. It’s an AI-driven search engine that provides quick, conversational answers, plus website links if you want to dig deeper. It’s like getting a smart, personalized response every time you search.

The AI of it all 🤖

I love learning from people around me and I recently met a couple of people in a mastermind group I’m in who have created some cool software.

The first is an AI headshot generator. I highly suggest trying it out.

For just $35, you can get 100 different headshots in three different styles.

Click here to give it a whirl.

Did you know I play 🎻

I recently celebrated my one-year anniversary with Trala.

If you haven’t been following along on Instagram, I started taking virtual violin lessons since last playing in elementary school.

I’m learning songs from Harry Potter, Are You Ready for It by Taylor Swift, What Was I Made for from the Barbie movie, Wrecking Ball by Miley Cyrus, and lots of other fun ones.

Trala also teaches voice lessons, guitar, and other musical instruments.

If you’re like me and love learning and trying new things, then why not take a 30-minute lesson every week?

I can even get you a lesson for free 🤑

Just click here and click "Get started".

Then, when prompted for a promo code, just enter my email address: christina@mediamavenandmore.com!

I’m on the go ✈️

I’m going to leave you hanging next week because I will be in Lisbon, Portugal with the amazing Storyblok team.

I’m so excited to meet my Slack and Google Meet friends in person… and go to Europe for the second time. (The first time was to see my girl Taylor in Madrid and it was amazing!)

After that, I’ll be in LA because I just bought a ticket to visit Shine Away in LA.

It’s an event Reese Witherspoon puts on through her company, Hello Sunshine.

Since Reese is one of my favorite people and it’s my (new) dream to write a thriller, have her pick it as a book club pick, and turn it into a series or movie… I figure I gotta go!

But I’m waiting for the Price is Right schedule to book my flight and hotel so I can swing by the Burbank studio and (hopefully) live another dream of getting called up on stage to play along.

Spend less time in front of your keyboard

You’ve likely tried it, and have been disappointed 🤦🏻‍♀️

Well, I did it. I quit one of my freelancing gigs because dealing with the mental health issues of an unwell manager was taking its toll on me. For more on what I mean, click here and read the LinkedIn post I made about it last week. The post has gotten nearly 30,000 impressions and resonated with a lot of people… which means there are more crazy people in leadership positions than I thought. Uh. I’ve been out of the pitching game for a while… and it’s harder than it used to be. Granted, I’m currently trying to: a.) land the hardest kind of media (national TV), b.) during the toughest time (an election year), and c.) with experts who don’t live in the country. Still, I’m learning that I need to do things differently. Here are some tweaks I’m making and reminders I’m telling myself: Send a tweet that says “Hey, @person. I dropped you a quick line on a story idea about the topic for...
