Why PR is the future of marketing

I’m back from Amsterdam where I joined the amazing Storyblok go-to-market team to chat all things sales, partners, and marketing.

I was lucky enough to be asked to emcee the three-day event.

…and the best part? I got to pick a walk-up song each day.

Shout out to Taylor, Britney, and Eminem for the support.

PR is Making a Comeback

For years, PR was seen as a dying trade.

As mainstream media lost influence and pitching for coverage became increasingly fruitless, many wrote it off as outdated.

But here's the plot twist: while traditional media declined, the channels of influence exploded.

Here is some powerful insight from Rand Fishkin on why PR is the future of marketing.

He says traditional media may have less direct influence, but public relations is poised for its biggest comeback yet.

Why?

Because PR now shapes how brands appear across every platform that matters — from search algorithms to AI models, content aggregators to social communities.

Modern PR isn't just about media coverage.

It's about influencing the entire digital ecosystem where your audience spends 6.5+ hours daily.

In Rand's words, "PR is how you get into those models. It's how you influence Google... how you influence what Reddit talks about... what YouTubers talk about."

One of my clients had this lovely little email list just sitting there, collecting digital dust. No newsletters. No updates. Nada.
